Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH) has empowered 35 youth entrepreneurs in Thamaga who own Small and Medium Entreprises by hosting a capacity building workshop for them at Thamaga Secondary School.

The workshop was a buildup to the commemoration of the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2016 which will be held in Thamaga on 17 June 2016 through the Theme: ICT Entrepreneurship for Social Impact.

The BIH IT services manager Ms Esther Yane explained in an interview that they managed to select the 35 participants through the assistance of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture office in the area.

“From this total number, we also have 18 students from the three junior schools in Thamaga who are doing small businesses with Junior Achievement Botswana (JAB),”she said.

She stated that different entrepreneurs participated in this workshop where they were trained on Internet computing fundamentals. They were also advised on the strategies they could use to boost their businesses like social media and office suite which includes Microsoft word.

She further stated that four different company owners who were mentored at BIH came to share their experiences with the entrepreneurs.

“We felt bringing the existing and established companies will motivate the entrepreneurs to work hard at what they do and sustain their businesses,” she said.

One of the participants, Mr Larona Leshetla, a student at Thamaga secondary school expressed gratitude towards the workshop stating that it had added a lot of value in their lives.

“It is not everyday that we have such workshops and this has opened my eyes and now I am ready to run my own business,” he said.

After the workshop the participants were awarded certificates by the Minister of Transport and Communication who is also the area Member of Parliament, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo.

BIH offers business support services and incentives to improve the ease of doing business. The company also offers solutions suited to both established institutions and start ups.
