Mr. Alan Boshwaen is the Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH). BIH is a state owned company with a mandate to develop and operate Botswanas first science and Technology Park in which it will promote and facilitate research, development, education and innovation activities and support start-ups and existing companies to grow. BIH attracts companies, universities, research institutes and advanced training institutes to establish in the Botswana Innovation Hub and also seeks to establish strategic joint ventures and collborations.
Alan has extensive experience in the Financial Services and Banking sectors having been CEO of the Botswana International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) and held senior management positions with Standard Chartered Bank Botswana and Barclays Bank of Botswana. Alan has also previously worked for Debswana (De Beers Botswana) Diamond Mining Company.
He holds BA Honors in Industrial Psychology and Business Administration from the University of Kent at Canterbury and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Cape Town. He is a non-executive Board Member of the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation –a Telecomms Utility and of Letshego Financial Services –a regional Africa micro finance listed company He also serves on the Advisory Board of the University Of Botswana School Of Business.
Dr. Budzanani Tacheba is Director, Cluster Development at the Botswana Innovation Hub Company. Budzanani started his career with the Dutch Development Organisation (SNV) as Advisor on sustainable development. He later joined the University of Botswana as Research Fellow working in different research projects. Budzanani’s career path would later lead him to a European Space Agency funded project, Global Monitoring for Food Security (GMFS) where he assumed the role of National Coordinator and subsequently progressed to the position of Regional Coordinator.
In 2008 Budzanani joined the public service and worked at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology within the Botswana Innovation Hub project implementation office. He worked as its Acting Coordinator until his subsequent appointment to his current position when the Botswana Innovation Hub company was established in February 2012. His main focus is on the development of key cluster areas of the Botswana Innovation Hub from a research and development (R&D) and business development perspective. He is a non–executive Board Member of the Botswana Geoscience Institute and served in the Botswana Medical Education Partnership Initiative (BOMEPI) Board.
Mr. Lesole Lame Ngaka is the Head of Legal and also the Board Secretary of the Botswana Innovation Hub. Lesole is a lawyer by profession having graduated from the University of Botswana with an LLB Degree in 2004. He is admitted to the Botswana High Court as an Attorney, Conveyancer and Notary Public. Lesole is a member of the Law Society of Botswana.
Subsequent to graduation, Lesole’s career path includes working as a Professional Associate at Minchin & Kelly Attorneys (Botswana) where he was primarily involved in contract drafting, litigation mainly in respect to commercial disputes and insurance law. Lesole later joined the Local Enterprise Authority as the Head of the Legal Division. Currently, as Botswana Innovation Hub’s Head of Legal and Board Secretariat, he is responsible for the overall legal function of the organisation and its subsidiaries, including compliance and legal advisory. Under the Board Secretarial function, he is tasked with advising the Board on all legal issues and ensuring the adherence and adoption of corporate governance principles and standards.
Mr. Diane Mongudi is the Director, Finance and Procurement at the Botswana Innovation Hub. Diane is a seasoned accountant with more than 15 years industry experience. He started his career at Ernest and Young, one of the country’s big four audit firms. He then joined Associate Fund Administrators Botswana as an accountant and later on worked as Finance and Administration Manager overseeing the accounting, administration and human resources divisions. He also worked for the then Botswana Tourism Board as Finance Manager. In 2013 he joined Debswana Pension Fund as Finance Manager. He joined Botswana Innovation Hub in November, 2015.
Diane holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Botswana. He is a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and an associate member of Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA). In 2014 he completed a Management Development Programme with the University of Stellenbosch.
Mr. Tshepo Tsheko is the Director, Marketing and ICT at Botswana Innovation Hub. He assumed the role after a three year stint as founding Programme Manager of the Botswana Innovation Hub’s hybrid incubator/accelerator, First Steps Venture Centre (FSVC).
Tshepo has a vast international exposure amassed from three continents, extensive business networks and a wealth of work experience gained from global blue chip companies. With an extensive 10 years’ experience in the ICT and business administration fields, Tshepo has been a Business Analyst at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company in New Jersey, USA, Technical Consultant at Hewlett Packard in Chester, UK and Group IT Manager at Turnstar Holdings in Gaborone, Botswana. He has also worked as Systems Analyst and Senior Operations Associate – Technical Services at Bristol-Myers Squibb in the US and UK respectively.
Tshepo holds a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from the Pennsylvania State University, College of Engineering and is a promising candidate for a Master’s in Business Leadership for the University of South Africa, School of Business leadership. Tshepo is the Founder of Pivot Point, a human innovation company, born in Africa, which specialises in assisting individuals and companies to unlock and nurture their innovation potential so they can adapt, innovate and thrive.
Mr. Mathiba Makolo is Director – Property Development and Facilities Management. Mathiba has a well cultivated knowledge of the construction industry having worked for various entities for the past 25 years. Mathiba joined Botswana Innovation Hub (Pty) Ltd from Nafprop in 2017. As Director – Property Development & Facilities Management he leads the division that is responsible for providing support to the innovation initiatives that enable technology driven entrepreneurship through the development and maintenance of world class physical infrastructure. This is done primarily through the development of Botswana’s first Science and Technology Park. Mathiba’s career started at Botswana Defence Force (BDF) in 1993 where he commissioned best in military knowledge and was appointed Project Officer. He progressed through the ranks until he was promoted to the rank of Major and appointed Director – Construction and Infrastructure Development. In 2006 he left BDF and joined Debswana Diamond Company (Pty) Ltd as Contracts Administrator. As Contracts Administrator Mathiba put together contracts for Debswana and oversaw all the various stages of contracting through to contract close-out. In 2011 Mathiba left Debswana and joined Nafprop (Pty) Ltd, a managing agent of a public variable rate loan stock company listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) as Projects Development Manager. He delivered various retail, industrial, and hospitality projects thus adding to the 64 properties occupied by 474 tenants with a market capitalization of P1.95 billion as valued at 31 July 2017. Mathiba is a quantity surveyor by profession having graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 2002. He has worked in Botswana, South Africa, Namibia and Zambia. Mathiba is a member of Botswana Institute of Quantity Surveyors, South African Property Owners Association and South Africa Council of Shopping Centres.
