Front Desk Services: Botswana Innovation Hub Front Desk Services are maned by a receptionist who provides the company’s first point of business contact with walk-in clients and those that make telephone calls. The receptionist is responsible for handling front office reception and administration duties, such as receiving clients, answering incoming phones, and handling company inquiries about a company and its products or services. This essential touchpoint may also assume some security guard access control functions for the company such as verifying employee identification, issuing visitor passes, and observing and reporting any unusual or suspicious persons or activities. Commercial and Real Estate Services Marketing: Physical development of the Botswana Innovation Hub Science and Technology Park is underway. The Park offers prime commercial and real estate products and services. The focal point of the Hub is to provide state-of-the-art buildings and facilities conducive for attracting domestic, regional and global companies, to locate businesses as well as research and development activities within the Park. The Park offers land for lease or co-development to innovative companies and gives them the flexibility to develop property according to their need and design. The company continues to engage with local and international companies in pre-letting negotiations. Tangible pre-letting prospects currently stand at 68% of the lettable space in the Icon building. The Hubs main objective is to promote technology-based innovation and entrepreneurship. This is anticipated to create downstream jobs in new manufacturing and services enterprises. Business Support Services and Member Incentives Client Relations: The success of a B2B company hinges largely on strong client relationships, especially for a small or early stage company. Exceptional client service constitutes a core value for business. At Botswana Innovation Hub, the role of client relations develop a deep understanding of the technical and business challenges clients face and identify opportunities to meet those needs. The client relations manager works closely with customer-facing staffers to explain the needs of the client and motivate them to provide the highest standards of service. Client relations manages and protects the relationship between the company and its registered clients. Client relations aims to build relationships with clients based on trust and value and maximize long-term revenue opportunities by becoming trusted advisers to clients through strengthened loyalty. First Steps Venture Centre: First Steps Venture Centre (FSVC) is a technology entrepreneurship development and innovation commercialization programme, within the Botswana Innovation Hub. The centre is established to support entrepreneurship and innovation through technology transfer. FSVC identifies, develops and nurtures viable technology-oriented start-up businesses with potential to grow locally and into international markets. FSVC offers support to start-up companies to harness the potential for economic diversification in the technology sphere through ventures that embrace locally relevant technology and technical support. Mining Technology Entrepreneurship Centre: The Mining Technology Entrepreneurship Centre (MTech Centre) is a collaboration between Botswana Innovation Hub and BCL Limited based in Selibe-Phikwe. The center aims to engage local SME’s and micro-businesses as suppliers in the BCL mines value chain, and in so doing, contribute to growing local commerce. Through a local supplier development and performance management process the center strives to increase the local communities access to information and job creation opportunities and enhances regional innovation and entrepreneurial climate through business training and access to the BCL demand markets and business opportunities. CleanTech Centre: Botswana Innovation Hub has partnered with Lund University and Krinova Science Park in Sweden to establish a CleanTech Centre of Expertise programme within Botswana Innovation Hub, with support from the Swedish government through the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). The prgogramme is meant to establish a hub for research and business development on Clean Technologies with relevance to Botswana, Swedish partners, and their stakeholders. CleanTech business cuts across the four focus areas of Botswana Innovation Hub as it entails coming up with innovations and technologies for greener, cleaner, low-carbon, resource efficient and socially-inclusive development path. Microsoft Innovation Centre: The establishment of Microsoft Innovation Centre (MIC) within the Botswana Innovation Hub is a result of a partnership with Microsoft Corporation. The collaboration with Microsoft Corporation allows MIC to play a pivotal role in the development of national software systems, as well as creating benefits through various technology transfer initiatives. MIC supports and facilitates research and development, education and innovation activities in ICT. It supports start-up ventures and assists existing companies to grow. Technology Transfer Office: Botswana Innovation Hub in partnership with the University of Botswana and Southern Africa Innovation Support Programme (SAiS) has set up the National Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Office. The National Technology Transfer Office offers Botswana Innovation Hub clients and network members Intellectual Property (IP) awareness and capacity building, IP management and IP commercialization which includes development of technology briefs for marketing purposes, venture creation for start-ups and joint ventures, deal structuring, drafting and execution of License and other Technology Transfer agreements. Cyber City Kgotla: Cyber City Kgotla was established with Botswana Innovation Hub as a catalyst in the development of the ICT industry and the creation of an innovation supporting ecosystem in Botswana. Cyber City Kgotla is an open community workplace for the ICT Developer Community where innovation, technology, entrepreneurship and investment meet. It is a platform for all those in the technology space in Botswana actively engage. Cyber City Kgotla target members are researchers, developers, tech-entrepreneurs and ICT professionals and students. It provides tailored services amongst them physical co-working space, access to high speed internet, technical and business training as well as testing platforms with all the services provided at no cost.
