Information & Communications Technology Cluster

The BIH ICT Cluster is an Innovative ICT ecosystem created to support the development of a vibrant local ICT economy and create jobs .It also is  attracting local and international world-class innovative companies (Start-ups, Local ICT Companies, ICT Multinationals), as well as tech companies in other sectors that are interested in the ICT related innovation. Given the BIH investments including physical premises with strong infrastructure, including fast Internet connectivity, BIH is a haven for new businesses to establish themselves utilizing affordable facilities. The BIH ICT Cluster support innovation capacity building, technology partnerships to support local ICT innovation and tech entrepreneurship support.

The establishment of Microsoft Innovation Centre (MIC) within the Botswana Innovation Hub is a result of a partnership with Microsoft Corporation. The collaboration with Microsoft Corporation allows MIC to play a pivotal role in the development of national software systems, as well as creating benefits through various technology transfer initiatives. MIC supports and facilitates research and development, education and innovation activities in ICT. It supports start-up ventures and assists existing companies to grow.

The ICT cluster through its developer community known as Cyber City Kgotla, is able to provide a catalyst in the local development of the ICT industry and creation of an innovation supporting ecosystem in Botswana. Cyber City Kgotla is an open community workplace for the developer community to actively engage.

First Steps Venture Centre

First Steps Venture Centre (FSVC) is a technology entrepreneurship development and innovation commercialization programme, within the Botswana Innovation Hub. The centre is established to support entrepreneurship and innovation through technology transfer. FSVC identifies, develops and nurtures viable technology-oriented start-up businesses with potential to grow locally and into international markets.

FSVC offers support to start-up companies to harness the potential for economic diversification in the technology sphere through ventures that embrace locally relevant technology and technical support.

The Centre offers services such as hot desking, business advisory, brand activation and publicity, fully furnished offices at affordable rates, technology entrepreneurship coaching and mentoring and matchmaking which connects start-ups with the right partners

Mining Technology Entrepreneurship Centre

The Mining Technology Entrepreneurship Centre (MTech Centre) is a collaboration between Botswana Innovation Hub and BCL Limited based in Selibe-Phikwe. The center aims to engage local SME’s and micro-businesses as suppliers in the BCL mines value chain, and in so doing, contribute to growing local commerce.

Through a local supplier development and performance management process the center strives to increase the local communities access to information and job creation opportunities and enhances regional innovation and entrepreneurial climate through business training and access to the BCL demand markets and business opportunities.

CleanTech Centre

Botswana Innovation Hub has partnered with Lund University and Krinova Science Park in Sweden to establish a CleanTech Centre of Expertise programme within Botswana Innovation Hub, with support from the Swedish government through the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). The prgogramme is meant to establish a centre for research and business development on Clean Technologies with relevance to Botswana, Swedish partners, and their stakeholders.

CleanTech business cuts across the five focus areas of Botswana Innovation Hub (Mining, ICT, Biotechnology, Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Clean Technologies) as it entails coming up with innovations and technologies for greener, cleaner, low-carbon, resource efficient and socially-inclusive development path towards a knowledge-based economy.
