The BIH ICT Cluster is an Innovative ICT ecosystem created to support the development of a vibrant local ICT economy and create jobs .It also is attracting local and international world-class innovative companies (Start-ups, Local ICT Companies, ICT Multinationals), as well as tech companies in other sectors that are interested in the ICT related innovation. Given the BIH investments including physical premises with strong infrastructure, including fast Internet connectivity, BIH is a haven for new businesses to establish themselves utilizing affordable facilities. The BIH ICT Cluster support innovation capacity building, technology partnerships to support local ICT innovation and tech entrepreneurship support.
The establishment of Microsoft Innovation Centre (MIC) within the Botswana Innovation Hub is a result of a partnership with Microsoft Corporation. The collaboration with Microsoft Corporation allows MIC to play a pivotal role in the development of national software systems, as well as creating benefits through various technology transfer initiatives. MIC supports and facilitates research and development, education and innovation activities in ICT. It supports start-up ventures and assists existing companies to grow.
The ICT cluster through its developer community known as Cyber City Kgotla, is able to provide a catalyst in the local development of the ICT industry and creation of an innovation supporting ecosystem in Botswana. Cyber City Kgotla is an open community workplace for the developer community to actively engage.
