World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2016: Public Notice

Botswana Innovation Hub in collaboration with Ministry of Transport and Communication (MTC) and other ICT stakeholders join the global community in commemorating the annual World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2016. WTISD helps raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.

This year’s commemoration is scheduled to be held on Tuesday 24th May, 2016 at Thamaga village and the theme of the event is, “ICT entrepreneurship for social impact.”

In the buildup towards the commemoration, several activities are lined up and Botswana Innovation Hub’s contribution to this year’s commemoration is a capacity building workshop for the youth and entrepreneurs in Thamaga. The workshop will take place from Wednesday 18th May to Friday 20th May, 2016 at Thamaga Community Junior Secondary School.  The following Botswana Innovation Hub registered ICT companies are taking part in the commemoration:

  1. ITIQ Botswana will provide training for 12 workshop participants on Internet Computing fundamentals for five days
  2. Concerotel will provide Point of presence with the provision of WiFi on the commemoration day at the Stadium where the event will be held. In addition, the company will also provide six months mentorship for three youths from Thamaga who are running Internet Cafes
  3. FSVC clients, Social Light, Deaftronics and mAgri have offered their services as facilitators at the capacity building workshop
  4. All the above companies will also participate in the Botswana Innovation Hub exhibition stall on the commemoration day
